Nungua’s Cultural Festival

Mala Majo Festival

Mala Majo is an annual, free cultural festival rooted in Nungua. It brings together traditional and neo-traditional musicians, dancers and cultural groups for energetic performances that celebrate Ghanaian heritage and give local talent a major public platform.

Founded by Nungua-born master drummer, musician and choreographer Fredrick Nii Kpakpo Addo, the festival was created to give back to the community that supported his artistic journey and to create hope and opportunity for young traditional performers.

Although its heart is in Nungua, Mala Majo connects the town with performers, students, cultural travelers and audiences from across Ghana and abroad. Festival-related cultural tours can include drumming, dance and singing workshops, community activities, local food, sightseeing and opportunities to perform alongside experienced artists.

Music & Dance Traditional rhythms, live bands and cultural ensembles.
Community A free public celebration that supports emerging artists.
Cultural Exchange Visitors and performers connect through workshops and shared experiences.
Nungua Pride A festival born from the community and its artistic heritage.
